How do you recruit translators?

Most of our recruitment is done through CVs which we receive on a daily basis. However we do also recruit through professional bodies such as ITI or IoL



What makes a good translator?

A good translator is required to have a degree in translation, fluency in at least one other language; we would expect them to have excellent IT skills and good time management skills as well.


What translation projects do you handle?

We do all different type of translation projects; it could be small projects from birth certificates and medical certificates through to websites, technical manuals, marketing translations and large papers for government bodies.


Talk us through a translation job

When a translation quote has been accepted by a client we then identify the translator who would be most appropriate to do the assignment. We require the translator to be specialised in the document subject and also be available. Once this person has been identified we send the document to the translator who looks to the document and confirms they are happy to do the assignment.

We then send the contract to the translator stating the deadline and the rate per thousand of words they will be charging. When the agree deadline is reached we expect to receive the document from the translator in the original format which means a word document need to be  overwritten and if it is a pdf file we would expect the original formatting to be kept as closely as possible. We also expect the translator to have done a proofreading stage, however the agency also does a proofreading stage. Once you are happy with the document we then expect the translator to send us an invoice with the appropriate number of words.


Considering a career in translation?


I would advise some who is considering a career as a translator to continue working their language skills continually. They also would need to extend the number of specialised areas that they have and continue research. Also IT skills are vitals and must be kept up to date. I would also suggest never accept an assignment they cannot fulfil and on the other hand you must be prepared to go that extra mile in a very competitive market.
