Every step we normally take in managing translation projects takes a little bit longer when we're dealing with patents. The initial document review process is undertaken by two of our linguists (a native of the source language and one of the target language) to identify any potential problems or areas of concern. A significant amount of time is then spent researching appropriate terminology for the technical terms employed, before the document is sent for translation. After translation, the two editors review the translated document both in isolation and against the original to ensure the translation is a perfect adaptation of the original document. All elements, including more cosmetic concerns such as layout are checked to ensure they adhere to the client's original instructions.
